Have you ever presented DI and had the client immediately shut down the sale because the coverage is too expensive or because they are “already covered with Worker’s Comp”? While adjustment of benefits may be in order, another option is Off the Job DI coverage!

It works exactly how it sounds–if an insured becomes disabled off the job and otherwise qualifies for coverage, benefits will pay out! It’s important to note that if the insured becomes disabled on the job, they will not be able to submit a claim…but remember, the insured already has on the job insurance–it’s called Worker’s Compensation!

You can also use this product to start the conversation about DI. Rather than open with a full blown IDI plan with all the bells and whistles, present the Off the Job coverage first to get the client thinking about it. From there, if the client is interested in more comprehensive coverage, you can transition the conversation to a more robust IDI plan.
